Live Tweeting Reflection: Law and Order: SVU

By Troy Hunter

I chose to do my live tweeting reflection on Law and Order: SVU.  SVU is one of the most popular shows on television today. The reason I chose this is because it is a court room drama that gives people the chance to participate with the trial process and make their own assumptions on who they think is guilty and make their own opinions on the cases. SVU also is known for “ripping from the headlines”. This makes the cases direct reflections from society and culture. During the prime time showing the network encourages fans to tweet along with the show at their twitter “@nbssvu”. This particular episode was about a black gay man who is a singing coach on a singing competition and also a music teacher at a private school. He was framed for molesting children in his music classes by two privileged white girls who were scorned after being dropped from the signing coach so he could focus on a contestant for the singing competition. People jumped on the expression of white privilege displayed in this episode and made comments about how it wasn’t right. People tweeted the whole episodes making their assumptions on what was going on, who was really at fault, and whether he was guilty or not. At first people were convinced he was guilty and then by the end of the episode started to suspect he was innocent and were very shocked to realize who framed him. This participation in Live tweeting makes the experience of watching the show much better by being able to interact with the plot and with other people watching. Live tweeting is a great way to share you television experience with others and enhance it through participation.

“The man went to Rikers and lost his TV job. Because two entitled brats made up a story.

“It’s too late too apologize ….his name will never be the same #SVU

“Smh, white women. #sorrynotsorry if that offended some of y’all. This #SVU episode got me worked up as usual”

“I could rant on how this culture is quick to assume a gay man is a pedophile, but I won’t. #svu

#SVU Deep…is this why gay men skip education as a profession….This is so sad he is the scapegoat!!!”

“This is what happens when you have special snowflake syndrome. #SVU

“The sense of entitlement they have is real! SMH #SVU
